Applying your traditional forms to actual fighting.
Переглядів 22614 днів тому
If you want to apply your traditional forms and system to actual fighting, you are going to have to start to adapt to some methods used by many of the modern combat systems. Creative shadow boxing, mirror work, pre-set sparring to free sparring drills. It doesn't mean you have broken your tradition. It means you are not practising your swimming on dry land.

This is the first section of the 2 man fighting form performed slowly to check on balance, posture, breathing and weight distribution. We can all be guilty of wanting to move too fast and look powerful with our Ging power. It does no harm to get back to the beginners stage .

Form Applications
Переглядів 809Місяць тому
Take techniques from your forms and feed your partner with punches ect so you can practice applying your technique. Start slow and don't worry about not getting it perfect. This will build your confidence and a greater belief in your system. Have fun and when you are ready to add speed and power over time, you will have lessened your chance of injury or hurting your partner.

    It always stuck with me from my boxing training how much power can be taken off a blow just by moving a slight amount in the same direction as (ie with) the punch. It’s definitely worth investing time into this type of training

  • @1mataleo1
    @1mataleo1 3 місяці тому

    This is the truth. I feel like people who believe that there are “secrets” do so because on a subconscious level, it gives them an excuse for not practicing their martial art skills against a non compliant training partner. Sparring and pressure testing is the only way to make it effective. I was a competitive boxer when I was younger, and it was the first art I trained in. This helped give me a good foundation for determining what works in a fight, and the amount of sparring necessary to make it come out in combat. Also, because of where I grew up, I actually had to defend myself in real life situations. Anyone who experiences the chaos and pressure of being suddenly and violently attacked by one or more people can use that negative experience to inform their training. Many people who practice martial arts have never been in a real fight, which is a good thing, but it also tends to give them a false sense of security and makes them complacent. That’s fine for people who practice for health and exercise, but for real, effective self defense, pressure testing is required.

    This is a legit system, I'm not going to comment on the guys here because I don't know how far they are up the ladder or whether they are beginners, but the complete system has the footwork/ proper sparring/ and body conditioning and power building. Unfortunately it is one of the most boring systems in martial arts, a lot of time is spent on power building and conditioning. It's also a shame this system has not been updated and will probably fade out of existence / relevance.

    Nice vid! The spine movement is very white crane/tai chi. Obviously in southern mantis too, but rarely shown. Would make a great vid just by itself talking about adding power using the spine as a "bow".

    • @WalintHUN
      @WalintHUN 4 місяці тому

      What do you mean by spine movement? I'm a noone beginner in the Tung Kong Chow Gar... I'm only learning yet the first 3 forms, but we think from the front so we talking about rib cage usage (we not focusing on the spine movements), as for the back we almost always trying to keep the so called tiger back posture, shoulders forward and down, chest in... but yes with the rib cage there is a bow effect def, 1st form is "3 step arrow punch", which is the simpliest and most advanced form too because it has many layers, levels to it (most important form too) this rib cage usage makes the muscles stronger between ribs with not just movement but w inner air pressure, practicing the form has a huge part to training up the iron shirt too personally I think more similar to Okinawan Karate(was developed from imported southern styles) than Wing Chun or White Crane anymore, nowadays Wing Chun is pro-technic, while Southern Shaolin PMs are developed in mind to mass produce warriors to battlefield in 2 years after ~200 years Wing Chun was invented , so its pro-power generation, the idea to be that powerful makes any technic to work and leave behind technic at the end as ideally with enough power any attack can be counter and over attacked and make the attack unavoidable.

    • @Searchinghands
      @Searchinghands 4 місяці тому

      @@WalintHUN The legs are a bow. Bent, they can store energy. Straightened, they release it. Same thing with the arms. The hip turned to the left stores energy for release to the right, and vice versa. In the same way the spine can be bent. By pushing the chest forward you can release energy in a backward strike (for instance if someone has grabbed you from behind) or by pushing the spine back you can release it forward to add power to a strike. Mostly what's shown in this video though is a wave motion in the upper body adding to the strike. With it comes the bending of the spine backward to push the arms forward, as well as the ribs etc.
